It’s our second edition of ‘Club Watch’ so let’s find out what has been going on at some of our National League sides this week.

National 1 

Cambridge RUFC

After unveiling their new clubhouse last week, the work continues for Cambridge off the field. They are also developing their facilities further and their long driveway up towards the club is starting to take shape.

Cinderford RFC

Half-back Alex Frame made his 100th appearance for Cinderford at the weekend. Coming on as a replacement in the second half, Frame’s game was short-lived, as the club stalwart was forced to come off due to injury.

 Darlington Mowden Park

Darlington Mowden Park are taking applications from primary schools, so that their pupils can participate in the club’s halftime kicking competition.

If accepted to play in the competition, two schools will attend a Mowden Park home game free of charge and compete in the tournament that will take place over seven fixtures.

Old Elthamians

Old Elthamians’ Women’s side got off to a fantastic start in their first league game of the season as they defeated Medway 39-21 in Championship Two South.

The side will next be in action when they take on Chesham Ladies on the 16th of September.

National 2 North

Hull Ionians

After Ionians meet Peterborough for the first ever time this weekend, the club will be holding a ‘Party on the Patio’ featuring a local band as well as a hog roast.

This will come at a cost of £20 that includes entry to the event, food and of course you will be able to watch the match itself.

Preston Grasshoppers

Following ‘Hoppers recent AGM, Keith Brierley has been elected as President at the club. He takes over from Hadyn Gigg MBE who held the role for four years.

During his time as president, Brierley will be celebrating the clubs’s 150th year anniversary since it was founded.

Sheffield Tigers RUFC 

Tigers second team player, Josh Hattersley, ran the Great North Run over the weekend in aid of Cystic Fibrosis.

Wanting to raise awareness of the condition Hattersley set up a Just Giving page to aid the Cystic Fibrosis Trust who help fund research and support families.

Stourbridge RFC 

Stourton Park will play host to the fixture between British Police Rugby’and the Royal Navy on the 13th of March.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby, Dean Richards, will also attend to present the players shirts and speak at the pre-match dinner.

Richards will have an invested interest in the fixture as a former captain of the British Police’s rugby club.

National 2 South 

Barnes

Over the summer, Barnes RFC have completely refurbished their kitchen and both bathroom facilities as well as putting in a new patio area outside. Over the next month they will also have central heating for the first time, a new boiler and a new cellar for the bar.

Henley Hawks RFC

Henley will play host to a king on the 26th of October when Elvis comes to visit. JD King, a world leading impersonator and tribute artist will be performing at the club the day before they travel to Redruth.

Taunton RFC

Taunton featured in the Somerset County Gazette last week as the club announced that former Exeter Chiefs and Leicester player Julian Salvi has joined the club as a player/coach.

Guernsey Raiders RFC

Guernsey Raiders are asking their fans that will be attending the clubs next home game on the 22nd of September to come dressed as pirates!

There will be prizes handed out for the best dressed female, male and under 16 at the game. There will even be live music following the against Redruth at Footes Lane.
